Un général US (en service) avertit : attaquer l’Iran, ce sera vraiment très, très dur

Encore un fait extrêmement rare, sinon inédit pour les conditions que nous connaissons actuellement, au cœur de la crise iranienne : une intervention très négative d’un général en fonction, occupant le quatrième poste hiérarchique dans l’état-major du Joint Chief of Staff. Si ce général n’est pas au moins réprimandé par sa hiérarchie civile, alors que son constat va contre la ligne officielle dans la crise, nous aurons un signe de plus de la faiblesse de ce pouvoir civil, pour ce cas face aux militaires.

Interrogé par le Daily Telegraph, voici les réactions du général Renuart. Il s’agit de réactions non seulement militaires mais également politiques, puisque la poursuite de la voie diplomatique est fermement conseillée.

« Military action against Iran would be fraught with risk and would have repercussions across the region, a leading American general conceded. “Any action militarily is very complicated,” Lt Gen Victor Renuart, the director of planning for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told The Daily Telegraph. “And any action by any country will have second-order effects, and that is a strong case to continue the diplomatic process and make it work.”
