“Americans are depressed…”

Pour la première fois, des résultats de sondages, signalés par Reuters le 9 septembre, montrent que le président américain a souffert dans l’opinion publique à la suite de l’ouragan Katrina. Il s’agit d’un sondage Pew Research Center, avec 67% de réponses jugeant que GW Bush aurait pu faire mieux après Katrina (contre 28% approbateurs). Le pourcentage de soutien à Bush tombe à 40%, avec 4% en moins par rapport à juillet.

Plus important, les résultats concernant l’état d’esprit des Américains.

« The Pew poll also found a shift in public priorities after Katrina caused a jump in gasoline prices last week, with a majority saying for the first time since the September 11, 2001, attacks that it was more important for Bush to focus on domestic policy than the war on terrorism.

» “Americans are depressed, angry and very worried about the economic consequences of the disaster,” said Andrew Kohut, director of the Pew poll. »

D’autres sondages montrent cette même tendance très forte au pessimisme. Un sondage Zogby « also found broad pessimism among a majority of Americans after the storm, with 53 percent saying the country is headed in the wrong direction and 42 percent saying it is on the right track. »
