Colleen Gaffy allumée par le Pentagone

L’appréciation de Colleen Gaffy sur les trois suicides de Guantanamo (“a good PR move”) a fini par causer quelques vagues à Washington, où l’on s’est aperçu que le reste du monde ne pense pas de cette façon et n’apprécie guère cette sorte de jugement. Curieusement, c’est le Pentagone qui a remonté les bretelles à Colleen Gaffy, — mais on comprend bien de quoi il s’agit, — puisque c’est l’occasion de mettre le département d’État (auquel appartient Gaffy) en difficulté, le Pentagone s’en donne à cœur joie… Voici donc Cully Stimson, adjointe de l’assistant du secrétaire à la défense pour les questions de détention (Detainee Affairs).

Cully Stimson déclare, sur un ton glacial: « I wouldn't characterise it is as a good PR move. » Commentaire de BBC.News, qui rapporte la déclaration de Stimson: «  In the world of public diplomacy that is quite a putdown. » (Mais le Pentagone fait-il partie du monde de la diplomatie? On observe par ailleurs que Cully Stimson s’est bien gardé de contredire l’amiral Harris, qui fait partie de la maison.)
