Le JSF “européen” dans le collimateur du député Hunter

Comme il fallait s’y attendre dans ce tourbillon anti-européen et anti-chinois qui constitue aujourd’hui la respiration politicienne à Washington, le député Duncan Hunter, grand spécialiste du protectionnisme des technologies US, particulièrement contre l’Europe, est entré dans la danse. Son objectif : la coopération européenne dans le programme JSF. Il renforce ainsi, notamment, la thèse exposée par William Pfaff le 16 avril.

Ce mouvement est irrésistible. Le Congrès voulant retrouver son statut par un activisme qui lui soit propre et ne pouvant exercer cet activisme, dans les matières extérieures, que sur le contrôle des exportations et autres transferts de technologies, c’est dans ce domaine que son action s’exercera jusqu’à l’hystérie. L’esprit anti-européen qui règne partout à Washington, et surtout au Congrès, renforce cette tendance. Comme il n’y a qu’un cas sérieux de transfert de technologie potentiel (d’ailleurs fictif, car même en temps normal il ne se ferait pas), un seul cas où peut s’exercer cette rhétorique protectionniste, agressive et anti-européenne, ce cas sera évidemment choisi, — et c’et le JSF, rubrique “coopération” internationale. La “chasse aux sorcières” est ouverte, comme on le sait, et elle a de beaux jours devant elle.

En attendant, voici Hunter, surnommé “Mister Buy American Act”, dans ses œuvres.

« Hunter warned that lifting the European arms embargo against China “should cause us to reconsider our entire security relationship with Europe.” He singled out the Joint Strike Fighter as a project likely to be in jeopardy if the embargo is lifted.

» The stealth fighter being developed by the United States and a half dozen European partners “is very capable. If that technology made its way to China, it could cause enormous problems for the American fleet,” Hunter said. “European firms are working with us and availing themselves of some of our most sensitive technology.” Hunter wondered what the U.S. would do “if we see stealth technology showing up in the Chinese military.” »
