Pelosi ira-t-elle en Iran?

Après son voyage controversé en Syrie, il y a des bruits concernant la possible visite de la Speaker de la Chambre des Représentants en Iran. C’est le député Lantos, qui a accompagné Pelosi en Syrie, qui a évoqué cette possibilité.

Les termes et les circonstances de l’annonce sont intéressants, ainsi que la personnalité de Lantos (un juif, “survivant de l’Holocauste”, comme indique la dépêche AFP reprise par RAW Story). Il s’agissait d’une conférence de presse conjointe Lantos-Pelosi, le premier disant parler pour “son propre compte” en évoquant la possibilité d’une visite de Pelosi, celle-ci ne démentant pas… Certains des échanges de cette conférence de presse (voir plus loin) ont paru très contrastés, certains sacrifiant à l’attitude officielle (l’hostilité convenue vis-à-vis du président iranien), d’autres montrant un esprit de conciliation, — le tout suggérant une certaine connivence Lantos-Pelosi.

Le point le plus intéressant de ces agitations politiques est la proximité de Pelosi des Israéliens (soutien à Israël, ses liens avec le lobby sioniste à Washington, etc.). Comme c’est l’habitude aux USA, les politiciens ont un comportement très fortement dicté par ces rapports avec Israël et le lobby. On pourrait alors penser que la direction israélienne, ou une partie de la direction israélienne, n’est pas hostile à ces initiatives. La chose est corroborée par le fait que le voyage de Pelosi en Syrie suivait une visite en Israël.

Quoi qu’il en soit, un déplacement de Pelosi en Iran représenterait une évolution révolutionnaire, non de la politique US mais de la complication, de la diversification et, même, de la désagrégation de celle-ci entre les centres concurrents à Washington.

«A senior US lawmaker who accompanied a controversial trip to Syria last week suggested he and Speaker Nancy Pelosi might be willing to visit another US foe, Iran.

»Representative Tom Lantos, who accompanied Pelosi to meet Syrian President Bashar al-Assad against strong White House objections last week, said he would go to Tehran and thought the speaker might also be willing to make a trip.

»“Speaking just for myself, I'm ready to go,” Lantos told reporters here late Tuesday. “And knowing the speaker, I think she might be.”

»“Because however objectionable, unfair and inaccurate many of (President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's) statements are, it is important that we have a dialogue with him,” Lantos, a Holocaust survivor, said.

»Pelosi, also at the press conference, did not contradict Lantos, but she slammed Ahmadinejad's previous denial of the Holocaust as “so repulsive that they are outside the circle of civilized human behavior.”

»She also noted that Lantos, the chairman of the important House Foreign Affairs Committee, had called for dialogue with the Islamic republic.

«“I think that speaks volumes about the importance of dialogue,” she said.»
