Il est assuré qu’on pourrait distinguer une certaine disparité de traitement public des liens entre Obama et le pasteur Wright, qui ont fait l’objet d’un scandale national, et des liens entre John McCain et le pasteur John Hagee, qui n’ont fait l’objet d’aucun scandale, nationale, régional ou local. Cela en dit déjà pas mal sur l’orientation des indignations aux USA.

… Cela en dit plus long encore lorsqu’on sait que McCain a pris certaines distances de Hagee sur certains problèmes et certaines déclarations, mais pas sur tous, et notamment pas sur ce qu’Hagee dit d’Israël, et lorsqu’on lit ce qu’Hagee dit d’Israël. Hagee a une approche absolument apocalyptique, annonçant et, sans doute, souhaitant qu’Armageddon se déclenche en Israël, en attendant le Messie et le reste. (Le soutien de McCain à Hagee sur cette question d'Israël fut notamment exprimé le 29 avril sur CNN : «I'm grateful for his commitment to the support of the state of Israel, and I'm very grateful for many of his commitments around the world, including to the independence and freedom of the state of Israel.»)

Nantis de cette sérieuse référence, il était bon de découvrir dans quels termes et selon quelles perspectives Hagee soutient Israël. Le site Politioco.com a simplement eu l’idée d’aller consulter la littérature du pasteur Hagee. Il nous expose le résultat de ses investigations le 15 mai. (On appréciera tout de même comme une nouvelle absolument succulente l’identification de l’Antéchrist en la personne du prochain et premier président de l’UE. Dommage qu’il y ait de fortes chances que ce ne soit pas Blair, récemment converti au catholicisme après ses exploits de Premier ministre.)

«Hagee, who leads the evangelical group Christians United for Israel, is a proponent of U.S. aid and support for Israel, and he is a major ally of Israeli conservatives who reject any “land for peace” formula in dealing with the Palestinians. »A spokesman for McCain, Brian Rogers, said, “John McCain’s commitment to the state of Israel is clear, and he respects Pastor Hagee's commitment as well.

»“As he has said many, many, many times, when folks endorse John McCain it doesn't mean he endorses all of their views,” Rogers said.»

Il faut ajouter que Hagee ne fait pas l’unanimité chez les juifs américains. Ses visions apocalyptiques et millénaristes ne rassemblent pas tous les suffrages. Il n’empêche, elles sont beaucoup plus en accord avec les tendances américanistes actuelles que la vision critique de l’américanisme du révérend Wright. Par conséquent, on s’abstient de critiquer trop ouvertement le pasteur Hagee.
