Extrait d’une interview très intéressante, sur laquelle nous reviendrons à l’occasion, de Michael Wynne, secrétaire à l’Air Force. L’extrait est un détail qui vous montre les parentés et l’héritage qui habitent l’Air Force — certains parleraient-ils plutôt d’“obsession” ? La question que se pose Wynne à propos de son action auprès du Congrès, vous imaginez bien que tout général de l’USAF conseillant un Israélien en mal d’attaque contre le Hezbollah, se la pose également ; et idem pour un autre général de l’USAF planifiant la prochaine attaque contre l’Iran. L’ami “Curt” a toujours une réponse à vos problèmes.

«Question. So you’re putting your faith in Congress’ generosity?

»Answer. I’ve got a picture of Curtis LeMay up here on my wall with a line that says, ‘What would Curt do?’ When Curt was trying to establish the Strategic Air Command, he went hat in hand to Congress and effectively got the Air Force budget increased so substantially it could afford new bombers and tankers. The Congress recognized the strategic nature of the U.S. Air Force and stepped up to the bar.»
