Qui est l’amiral ‘Fox’ Fallon ?

Cette fois, venu du camp des alarmistes concernant l’attaque hypothétique contre l’Iran…

On sait qu’il est fait grand cas, pour l’argument de cette attaque, de la nomination de l’amiral William ‘Fox’ Fallon comme remplaçant, en mars, du général Abuzaid comme CinCCent (commandement, Central Command). Fallon est actuellement CinCPac (commandement, Pacific Command) et sa nomination à un poste d’habitude réservé à un général “terrien” (U.S. Army ou U.S. Marine Corps) est évidemment mise en corrélation avec les intentions supposées d’attaque de l’Iran, notamment à partir de porte-avions.

Conn Hallinan, de Foreign Policy in Focus, publie un article (de tendance alarmiste pour l’attaque), sur Antiwar.com, ce 17 janvier. Il nous y donne quelques précisions sur Fallon, — “the right Admiral at the right place”, semble-t-il.

(D’autre part et un peu en sens inverse, nous avons eu des échos d’un Fallon ouvert à un dialogue avec les Chinois dans son commandement du Pacifique. Des contacts ont eu lieu, des visites notamment. Cette attitude ne va pas complètement dans le sens décrit ici.)

Voici l’extrait du texte qui concerne Fallon :

«If the United States does intend to hit Iran, or to support such an attack by Israel, then it just appointed the right man for the job. The new head of Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees the Middle East, Adm. William Fallon, is the former head of U.S. Pacific Command and an expert on air war. Fallon commanded an A-6 tactical bomber wing in Vietnam, a carrier wing, and an aircraft carrier. As retired U.S. Navy commander Jeff Huber writes in ‘Pen and Sword’, ”If anybody knows how to run a maritime and air operation against Iran, it's 'Fox' Fallon.”

»Fallon is also close with the neoconservatives and attended the 2001 awards ceremony of the Jewish Institute for National Security (JINSA), a think tank that strongly pushed for the war in Iraq and currently lobbies for attacking Iran. Vice President Dick Cheney and ex-UN Ambassador John Bolton are both former members of JINSA. The organization sponsored a 2003 conference entitled “Time to Focus on Iran – The Mother of Modern Terrorism.”»
