Selon l’expression consacrée, ce serait grotesque si ce n’était tragique

La situation en Irak est en train d’atteindre des domaines inexplorés jusqu’ici, dans le grotesque et le bouffon, en même temps que se poursuit la tragédie quotidienne dans les rues et les campagnes. L’épisode actuel suit la visite non moins grotesque, et dérisoire pour le compte, du couple Condi-Straw représentant le monde anglo-saxon venu à Bagdad faire rentrer ses ouailles dans le rang. Les ouailles rechignent.

Le premier ministre Jaafari, nommé évidemment par les Anglo-Saxons pour établir la transition conforme aux vœux de la Maison-Blanche, acclamé in illo tempre (assez proches) comme un collaborateur modèle de la démocratie, refuse de s’en aller comme lui enjoignent Washington-Londres.

L’habile et démocrate Jaafari s’explique dans le Guardian de ce matin : « In an exclusive interview with the Guardian in Baghdad — his first since Condoleezza Rice and Jack Straw pleaded with him and his rivals for an immediate agreement to prevent a slide to civil war — Ibrahim Jaafari insisted he would continue to carry out his duties.

» “I heard their points of view even though I disagree with them,” he said, referring to Ms Rice and Mr Straw's hectic arm-twisting visit to the Iraqi capital which ended on Monday. (...)

» Using the argument that the US and Britain had toppled Saddam in order to bring democracy, he turned it against them. “There is a decision that was reached by a democratic mechanism and I stand with it ... We have to protect democracy in Iraq and it is democracy which should decide who leads Iraq. We have to respect our Iraqi people,” he said. »

Pendant ce temps, AFP nous annonce que « [t]alks on forming a [Iraqui] national unity government were shelved despite stern warnings from US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and her British counterpart Jack Straw who left Iraq Monday after an unprecedented two-day visit. [...] “The ball is in the court of the alliance who have to take a final decision on Jaafari,” a lawmaker from one of the key partners in the alliance, Mohammed Ismail Khazali of the Fadhila party, told AFP. »

La balle dans leur camp? Pourquoi ne pas renvoyer les chars reconquérir Bagdad, capturer Jaafari manu évidemment militari, et faire un procès commun Saddam-Jaafari? On pourrait écrire à nouveau dans nos gazettes préférées, pendant une ou deux semaines, que la puissance impériale américaine est sans précédent dans l’Histoire.
