Call To Action: Urgent F-35 House Floor Vote
Dear F-35 Supporter:
Thank you for your support of the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter. As an advocate for the program, the F-35 needs your immediate help in contacting your elected congressional Representative to vote against an amendment on the floor of the House of Representatives. This vote could occur as early as today.
The Conyers / Ellison amendment (#103) to the FY13 National Defense Authorization bill would propose to terminate the F-35B Short Takeoff and Vertical Landing (STOVL) variant from the program. This variant is critical to the US Marine Corps and our allies (specifically United Kingdom and Italy). It is also critical to keeping the F-35 program affordable.
Please call your elected congressional Representative at (202) 224-3121 as soon as possible and urge him/her to vote No on the Conyers/Ellison Amendment #103 to the National Defense Authorization Bill.
Thank you for your help on this urgent matter.
Below are a few helpful talking points for your use.
————————————————————————————————————————
We urge you to vote No on the proposed Conyers / Ellison Amendment that will eliminate the F-35B STOVL variant for the Marine Corps and our international partners.
This amendment is opposed by the Department of Defense, the Marine Corps, the Navy, the Air Force and the F-35 Industry Team.
The F-35B will enhance the Marine Corps ability to operate as an organic expeditionary force, while at the same time increasing its ability to operate in conjunction with the Navy, the Air Force and our coalition partners in combat operations.
To date, the F-35 industry team has delivered 10 F-35Bs to the Marine Corps. Four F-35Bs are participating in the flight test program at Naval Air Station Patuxent River in Maryland and six have been delivered to Eglin Air Force Base in Florida to begin initial training for the Marine Corps.
At least two of our F-35 program international partners, the United Kingdom and Italy, are buying the F-35B as their fighter of the future.
Bottom Line: The F-35B is critical to our future national security and is urgently needed by the Marine Corps and our international partners.
VOTE NO on the Conyers / Ellison amendment to cancel the F-35B!
