L’agence russe Novosti rapportant les propos du républicain Paul Craig Roberts, ancien sous-secrétaire aux Finances de l’administration Reagan qui aurait déclaré : “L’administration Bush a absolument besoin d’événements dramatiques pour effrayer les Américains et forcer le Congrès à accepter l’Etat militaire et policier, dont George W. Bush et Richard Cheney tissent les mailles”, pouvait-on lire dans un article de Paul Craig Roberts, prévoyant que d’ici un an, “les Etats-Unis pourraient être un Etat policier dictatorial, en guerre contre l’Iran”.

Craig Roberts aurait fait explicitement mention de la possibilité que de faux attentats terroristes soient organisés aux Us et sans doute attribués à l’Iran. Notons qu’il y a quelques temps Zbigniew Brzezinski avait fait un discours dans lequel il estimait le gouvernement Us actuel parfaitement capable d’une telle action pour justifier des représailles contre l’Iran.

Quel que soit le crédit à accorder à ces déclarations, il n’en demeure pas moins que des personnalité qui ont eu des responsabilités extrêmement iomportantes au sein du gouvernement US évoquent ouvertement le risque d’actions terroristes organisées aux US même et parlent d’un possible glissement vers une forme de dictature alors que de telles hypothèses étaient l’apanage des milieux conspirationnistes il y a peu de temps.

Vous touchez la coeur de la crise du système Occidental. Le “Peak Oil”, nom communément admis pour cette crise n’est pas réellement un problème énergétique. Au “Peak Oil”, la production de pétrole sera maximale !

Tres jolie papier, tarabiscoté et argumenté comme à votre habitude. Rien à dire de plus (sauf à écire pendant des heures dans ces conditions) sinon que votre point de vue devrait être un peu plus connu dans certaines sphères d’influence où l’anglosphère et le virtualisme ont pignon sur rue…

Come on !  There is nothing new under the sun, the moon, the star wars or the earth to say about the unitary presider, and nothing new to learn about him, in spite of the Washington Post’s quasi-permanent efforts at his rehabilitation, comparable to the NY Times refusal to expose that he had to wear a wire in order to participate in the presidential debates. 

One can note, on the other hand, his consistency and coherence:  G.B. has failed at everything he’s attempted and constantly had to be bailed out by his family, whether it was a matter of getting diplomas or running companies into the ground…  Many signs are present that would strongly suggest that Mr. Bush’s case belongs in the Ripley’s Believe it or Not annals of pure psycho-pathology, or is off his madsd, as another reader previously suggested.  Or are we to accept that Mr. Bush is the unitary spokesman for God, since he claims to have a direct hot line to Him.

We know George Bush is not running the country (and we know who is).  It wasn’t an accident that he continued with the My Pet Goat saga in the middle of 9/11, that he was away from his desk on his bicycle riding thru Rock Creek Park and hence not notified about another serious incident on his watch, that Katrina didn’t motivate him to immediately shorten his ranch vacation; he then went out fundraising in the west and on to California to play the guitar of a rock star while the military held a dress rehearsal in violation of all law and occupied the streets of New Orleans. ..

At first, the selected, as opposed to elected, president was quite satisfied to play the role of the front man, diligently reading his teleprompter and scripts.  But he also got into the role of being president and has to re-assure himself - and remind everyone else -  that he’s “the decider”.  When he spontaneously goes off script, he utters insanities on his own initiative, such as praising South Africa, the continent, or was it Africa, the country ?    The Queen of England might not have said anything at the several occasions whereby Mr. Bush revealed that he’s not into protocol, either; however, if it is true that a picture is worth a thousand words, the photo ops with the Queen reveal everything that she did not speak, not to mention the yo, Tony conversation, where we all heard him speak, or the neck rub for the german Chancellor…..

How much is enough?, to borrow A. Entoven’s question.  How much insight or intelligence gathering is necessary to comprehend the limitations of the current resident of Pennsylvania Avenue ?  The only interesting questions today are those that aren’t being raised.  How much official torture is enough ?  Where’s the outrage ?  Polls show that Mr. Bush’s popularity makes Richard Nixon’s look rock solid at the height of Watergate.  What could the under 30d % of those who still support George Bush possibly be thinking?  Have they had frontal lobotomies? 

Why has the Congress not only re-confirmed being a know-nothing congress, but a do-nothing one as well?  Sure, lots of commissions, inquiries and statements in between voting funds for the wars to continue and voting yet another pay raise for themselves.  How many violations of the rule of law, how many articles of the Constitution have to be trashed, how many war crimes have to be committed, before the legislative branch of the government has enough and starts to do its job ?  What are Mrs. Pelosi, Mr. Reid and Mr. Levin, among too many others, waiting for?;  apologies and true confessions from the president, vice president and their neo-gang ?  So far, the people’s representatives are content to echo and slightly update Claude Rains in the other Casa Blanca, “I’m shocked, just shocked (and awed)”…

Sans doute je ne vous apprends rien mais votre expression m’a immédiatement fait penser un livre de d’Andrew Bacevich “The New American Militarism: How Americans Are Seduced By War”.

Nul part ailleurs je n’ai lu de meilleure description des origines américaines du néoconservatisme et du militarisme militant des Etats-Unis d’aujourd’hui, forgé dans le creuset de la prêtrise des “defense intellectuals” de la guerre froide.

Même si j’adhère à votre analyse, je crois qu’il importe de ne pas s’énerver. Le “noir ennemi du genre humain”, comme dit Tolkien, utilise justement la technique de propager le mensonge et la brutalité de proche en proche, tout simplement en nous faisant haïr ceux qui sont haïssables. Mais si l’on voue les autres à notre vengeance, le résultat net est toujours plus de haine.
Tant il est vrai que la meilleure réponse à la haine est de générer toujours plus d’amour et d’intelligence, et non de haïr encore plus.
Par ailleurs, il ne faut pas embarrasser notre hôte, le remarquable rédacteur de ce journal.
Quant à la dégradation du climat, je ne vois rien de REELLEMENT alarmant dans la période que nous vivons… Si ce n’est l’énorme campagne de média sur une prétendue responsabilité de notre civilisation dans une dégradation permanente du climat. On nous repasse en boucle le pauvre nounours tout seul sur son glaçon dans l’océan Arctique, mais en fait de publications scientifiques il n’y a rien de très impressionnant… Pour l’instant.
Bon, des gens envoient des radiations électromagnétiques dans la ionosphère pour la charger électriquement, et celà réchauffe légèrement le climat. Mais ils s’en lasseront. Notre bonne vieille Terre en a vu d’autres, et elle se fout des zozos qui jouent avec leurs jouets, du côté des Etats-Unis.

While the cutting edge of next-generation fighter design - Lockheed Martin’s F-22 Raptor - will remain beyond the means of all but a few of the wealthiest nations, the company’s smaller F-35 Joint Strike Fighter is already on the shopping lists of many air forces eager to acquire their first stealthy combat aircraft.

The JSF programme office proved its detractors wrong late last year by successfully keeping all eight of Washington’s international partners inside the F-35 project, despite many months of tough discussion.
Financial commitments are in place from Australia, Canada, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Turkey and the UK to support the programme’s production, sustainment and follow-on development phase, but Team JSF will face an equally tough battle if it is to keep the nations convinced that they should wait for the aircraft in the event of additional schedule delays and cost increases.

Norway’s pressing need to replace its Lockheed F-16s by around 2015 makes it reluctant to fully commit to the JSF project’s uncertainties, and Oslo is continuing its parallel involvement in the Eurofighter Typhoon and Saab Gripen programmes.
Similarly, while Australia’s recent order for 24 Boeing F/A-18F Super Hornets has been described as an interim measure to plug a capability gap until the frontline availability of the F-35, its plans could be reviewed if dissatisfaction increases over issues such as industrial workshare and technology transfer.

Having already spent over £1 billion ($2 billion) on the JSF project, the UK remains determined to secure approvals from Washington to obtain a sovereign capability to perform in-service support and embody upgrades for its future short take-off and vertical landing F-35Bs, which will operate alongside the Royal Air Force’s Eurofighters. “Typhoon is a better air-to-air platform, and in terms of offensive capability will offer you everything that JSF does, except the low-observable capability against the more advanced surface-to-air missile systems,” says chief of the air staff Air Chief Marshal Sir Glenn Torpy. “That’s what we’re buying JSF for: that low-observable, first-day capability that we believe the UK needs in a coalition.”

Underlining the anticipation felt across the nine-nation programme, Torpy adds: “This is not just going to be a stealthy bomb truck, it is going to be a fantastic intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platform as well.”

While conceding that key technology transfer issues have yet to be resolved, US Air Force Brig Gen Charles Davis, head of the JSF programme executive office, says: “I don’t think it’s a big problem. At the working level we’re making significant progress.”
